Poczta Polska

By 2028, Poczta Polska will implement letter sorters to save approximately PLN 100 million annually and speed up the work of postmen.

Poczta Polska announced a plan to purchase modern letter sorting systems, which are to be implemented by 2028. The operator argues that automation will reduce costs by approximately PLN 100 million per year and improve the daily work of deliverers. The investment is part of the company’s ongoing Transformation Plan, for which approximately PLN 500 million has been allocated.

An investment for years

According to preliminary calculations, the cost of the sorter project will amount to approximately PLN 200-300 million in total and will be spread over several years. The Post Office emphasizes that it is currently at the stage of collecting offers from the market, and the precise costs will be provided after the procedure is completed. At the same time, the company declares that the implementation will not translate into a reduction in postmen’s jobs.

The scope of the project includes the creation of an IT environment and the installation of at least 18 letter sorters in six main operational centers: in Warsaw, Zabrze, Komorniki, Lisi Ogon, Wrocław and Pruszcz Gdański. The machines will handle standard letters and parcels up to 2 kg. It will be complemented by OCR (optical character recognition) lines, which will enable recording data on shipments.

Process automation

Thanks to automation, postmen will no longer have to manually sort thousands of letters every morning. Parcels will be sent to them already sorted according to delivery areas, which will shorten preparation for work and improve delivery efficiency.

Despite the decline in the volume of letters, fast and error-free delivery remains crucial for many institutions. The Post Office emphasizes that the new solutions will strengthen the handling of court and official correspondence and the Public Hybrid Service (PUH – electronic delivery in the e-Delivery system, printing on the operator’s side and delivery in traditional form).
