Do you like castles with a fairy-tale atmosphere? If so, it is worth looking for them not only in Poland. If you have already seen popular gems such as Książ, Rabsztyn or Moszna, you can go to the Czech Republic.
Let’s move to the western border for a moment. Residents of the province Silesia, among others Katowice, you can reach your unique destination by car in as little as 2 hours. We are talking about the Hradec nad Moravicí Castle, a historic complex of buildings with the Renaissance White Palace, the Neo-Gothic Red Palace and interiors with period furniture. The place is so fascinating that in the Czech Republic it was hailed as the most beautiful of its kind in the entire country, and above all… fairy-tale-like.
The most fairy-tale castle in the Czech Republic
Hradec nad Moravicí is located on a rocky promontory above the Moravicí River, surrounded by dense forests and parks. They have a huge impact on the fairy-tale character of the place. They add charm, among others: slender towers and white walls associated, for example, with princesses waiting for their saviors.
On the other hand, we will also see the neo-Gothic Red Tower and defensive walls, which give it a more dramatic and cinematic atmosphere. When we see them, we can think of knights or urban legends with unusual characters.
The unique value of fairy tales is emphasized by Czech journalists from the website medium.seznam.cz. They draw attention to, among others: for architectural styling. “The neo-Gothic reconstruction of the 19th century was inspired by the Middle Ages, but at the same time romanticized it. It was no longer a defensive fortress, but a representative residence that was supposed to arouse delight, mystery and aesthetic delight,” we read.

Hradec nad Moravicí close to Poland
The most fairy-tale castle in the Czech Republic has a long history, dating back to the 13th century, and over the years it was expanded and changed hands – among others. to the Lichnov family. This gave the facility a “European cultural splendor”. Currently, Hradec nad Moravicí consists of several building units, and the extensive English park is a perfect complement to the whole.
Inside you will find historical collections, an art gallery, a library with thousands of volumes and representative apartments. Tourists use there, among others: from restaurants, hotels or concert halls. Guided tours are possible.
If you want to go there, remember that the castle is located right next to the Polish border near Opava. It is approximately 30 km from the border crossing in Chałupki or approximately 20 km from Krzanowice. You can reach it by car or train.
