This is the secret of Kacper Tomasiak’s success. The Olympic champion himself spoke
Kacper Tomasiak is one of the biggest surprises of the Winter Olympics 2026 competition. The 19-year-old Pole has already won two Olympic medals in great style.
Ski jumping has been going through difficult times in Poland in recent years. Before the start of Winter Olympics 2026, it was not easy to be optimistic about the start of the Polish national team. And yet, Kacper Tomasiak won two medals, equaling the result achieved by Adam Małysz during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
WINTER 2026: Domen Prevc assessed Kacper Tomasiak’s talent. Important words
The 19-year-old Pole is admired not only by Polish but also foreign media, experts and fans. There is no denying that Tomasiak caused a huge surprise, withstanding a lot of pressure that had been on him since the beginning of the 2025/26 season. It was as a debutant that he became the leader of the Polish national team.
The Pole’s attitude at Winter Olympics 2026 was assessed by Domen Prevc. A man who is by far the best in the current World Cup campaign. And on Saturday evening (i.e. February 14) he won gold at the Winter Olympics 2026 on the large hill. In Predazzo Prevc he also won for Slovenia in the mixed doubles competition. However, the Grand Master appreciated Tomasiak’s attitude.
– Kacper is a player who shows that he puts a lot of work into what he does. I also liked that after winning his first medal, he consciously cut himself off from social media. I perfectly understand how difficult it can be to cope with what can be found there (…) I have the impression that Kacper has a modern, more advanced jumping technique than other Polish competitors. I feel his best moments are still ahead of him. His future looks really promising – said the Polish, two-time medalist, champion from Slovenia.
It is worth adding that Tomasiak will be seen competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics. A duet competition is scheduled for Monday (February 16). It is possible that the double medalist will start in a duet with Paweł Wąsek. Kamil Stoch will most likely remain in the reserve.
2026 Games in Italy. Where and when to watch the Poles’ starts?
The Polish national team during the opening games consists of 60 athletes. In the 21st century, there has never been a Polish woman or a Pole on the Olympic podium during the Winter Olympics. During the last winter games, Poland finished the competition with one medal. The bronze medal was won by ski jumper Dawid Kubacki in the competition on the normal hill.
It is already known that Kubacki’s result was beaten at the Winter Olympics 2026 by a debutant among Olympians – Kacper Tomasiak. The 19-year-old great talent won a silver medal in the normal hill competition and a bronze medal in the large hill competition in Predazzo.
Another Olympic runner-up, Vladimir Semirunni, who made his debut at the Winter Olympics, was also runner-up in the 10 km speed skating race.
In the history of the Olympic Games, the Polish national team has won a total of 26 medals – seven gold, nine silver and ten bronze, respectively. Interestingly, the first bronze medal for Poland was won by Franciszek Gąsienica-Groń (Nordic combined) almost exactly 70 years ago, during the Olympic Games in… Cortina d’Ampezzo. This year, history has come full circle in a beautiful Italian-Polish Olympic circle.
Broadcasts from Winter Olympics 2026 in Poland are provided by Telewizja Polska (TVP) and the Discovery group (Eurosport). The event will last until Sunday, February 22.
