Poveglia lies between Venice and Lido. It has an area of ​​about 7.5 hectares and consists of three parts: one round and two wide stripes separated by a small channel. There are many legends with Poveglia, including preaching that a psychiatric hospital once operated there, but there is no evidence. It is certain, however, that once people escaped from barbaric invasions, it was also a place of forced insulation for people with plague. Their restless ghosts are to circulate there today. In the 20th century, the complex of 11 Poveglia buildings was transformed into a recovery center and a nursing home for seniors. It was closed in 1968.

Do you want to visit this island? You must remember that you can only use its northern part. On the lane, where the ruins of the former nursing home are located, for safety reasons there is still no access. The place is to be improved and transformed into a beautiful, free city park available to everyone.
