This is how we will travel in 2025. Tourists must be ready for these fees
Travel in 2025 will mean more formalities and often additional fees for tourists in popular holiday destinations. Here are the most important changes.
Poles are becoming more and more open to traveling. We are eager to discover not only European destinations (last year our compatriots “earned” a record number of visits to Malta), but also exotic ones – in 2024, Sri Lanka and Thailand reigned supreme in this respect.
At the same time, more and more countries are introducing changes aimed at protecting their natural and cultural heritage against negative phenomena related to the interest of tourists. In practice, this means additional fees for guests from abroad. Other policy provisions are dictated border security and building a modern immigration system. What changes for travel from Poland in 2025? This is something to remember.
Great Britain
In 2025, Poles will pay to enter Great Britain. This is the result of the introduction of a digital permit enabling people from visa-free travel countries (ETA) to enter the United Kingdom. Poles will need this document from… March 5, 2025 The ETA is valid for 24 months and allows you to make multiple trips to the British Isles.
Thailand
Although the ETA fee in this country loved by tourists was supposed to be introduced in December last year, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that this did not happen. Date the introduction of a fee for travelers to Thailand is not yet known. It has been initially postponed to mid-2025, so for now, Polish tourists only need a passport to enter this country. A visa is required for stays longer than 60 days.
Tunisia
It is an exotic hit among Polish tourists. In autumn, you could find a week’s all-inclusive stay here for just over PLN 1,000, and an additional advantage was the possibility of entry only with an ID card. Poles hoped that entry without a passport would be maintained this year, but from January 1, 2025, it is required.
Greece
This is one of Poles’ favorite holiday destinations in 2024, and accommodation fees will increase significantly this year. According to the decision of the Greek Parliament in December, the daily tax on short-term rentals in the period from April to October, i.e. in the high season, will increase to EUR 8 (about PLN 35) from EUR 1.5 (less than PLN 7). If we mainly want to sightsee, it is worth considering traveling to Greece outside the season. During the winter months the tax will increase to 2 euros from 0.5 euros. Fees are usually included in the price of accommodation. They will also increase in hotels, depending on the number of their stars. Also new is the fee for guests arriving by cruise ship to the islands of Santorini and Mykonos in the summer season (20 euros) and 5 euros for arrival at other ports in Greece.
Venice
The Italian city on the water is a unique place that everyone wants to see once in their life. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to pay for it. The city council has maintained the fee for one-day tourists, which will apply from April 18. It will probably be EUR 5 again, and tickets with a QR code will be scanned by city services. Venice is keen on booking accommodation in the city (be careful, they are usually much more expensive than those in the surrounding area). However, this way you can be exempt from paying the fee. We wrote in detail about the new system here.
