Karol Nawrocki was booed by fans during the football match between Górnik Zabrze and Raków Częstochowa. According to the KO politician, the reason was SAFE’s veto.

On Sunday, March 15, Karol Nawrocki unexpectedly appeared in the stands of the match of the 25th round of the PKO Ekstraklasa football match between Górnik Zabrze and Raków Częstochowa. The president’s presence was a surprise because it had not been announced before. Nawrocki was accompanied by the mayor of Zabrze, Kamil Żbikowski, and former candidate for the president of Romania, George Simion. The fans were informed about the appearance of the head of state by the stadium announcer after the start of the match.

After this information, loud whistles could be heard. The reaction was not expected, because Nawrocki was perceived by the fans as “one of their own”. A dozen-second recording of the event was published in the media by Civic Coalition MP Marek Sowa. His party colleague Zbigniew Konwiński suggested that the reason may be the president’s veto of the SAFE Act. “He was booed by thousands of fans. Are you fighting the army? Are you collecting boos,” the politician argued.

According to another theory, Nawrocki could have overturned the veto regarding the Silesian language. Roman Giertych, in turn, ironized that “it wasn’t booing, it was just whistling with admiration.” The head of state has so far appeared at a football match several times. A moment after taking the oath, Nawrocki supported Lechia Gdańsk, which he supports, when it faced Motor Lublin. In November, he watched the match between Legia Warszawa and Slavia Prague from the stands in the Conference League.

The president also supported the Polish national team live from the stadium. It was during the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup. It concerns the September match with Finland at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów and the November match with the Netherlands, which was played at the PGE National Stadium. Donald Tusk also learned that the presence of a politician at a sports event can end unpleasantly when he was booed during the match against Lithuania in Kaunas.
