In an interview with TVN24, Radosław Piesiewicz explained that “the choice of Andrzej Duda is not accidental, because the president is a person devoted to Olympism.” – The Polish Olympic Committee helps a lot, but we must also remember that it moved very well in international structures – he said.

As it turns out, not everyone in the Polish Olympic Committee found the choice of the head of state as obvious as it was for the president. The vote took place at the very end of the meeting under the “other matters” item. What draws attention first of all is the fact that many board members were absent from the meeting.

Out of 58 people entitled to vote, 39 took part. – It’s f***ing impossible. I couldn’t appear at the meeting, and Radosław Piesiewcz blocked the possibility of remote participation – one of the POC activists told Onet. – It was weak. No debate, no talk about other candidates. We vote and that’s it – added another person who took part in the vote.

He was supposed to stand up for Andrzej Duda

According to some activists, the nomination for Andrzej Duda is at least controversial. – We hear that we are an apolitical organization and we are appointing a politician for such a prestigious position – commented one of the Polish Olympic Committee board members. – Great candidacies of outstanding Polish athletes and Olympic medalists were simply flushed down the toilet. Without any discussion, for many years to come, because according to the regulations, each country can have one member of the IOC – added another.

When presenting the candidacy to the board members, Radosław Piesiewicz allegedly said that it was the idea of the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach and “a great success of Polish sports diplomacy”. He assured that “the president will definitely be elected and Poland will benefit greatly from it.”

Onet’s findings show that no one has confirmed this yet. What’s more, Andrzej Kraśnicki was supposed to stand up for Andrzej Dudaformer president of the Polish Olympic Committee, who just a few days ago received the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the president. It is no secret that he has a very good relationship with Thomas Bach.

The head of the Polish Olympic Committee explained the haste regarding the nomination by saying that the vote would be held in January. Meanwhile, according to Onet, it is to be carried out between March 19 and 21. Andrzej Duda will still be president then.

Currently, Maja Włoszczowska is a member of the IOC competition commissionwhich position he will certainly maintain until 2028. Throughout history, Poland has had only eight representatives in the IOC.
