This is how much tourists will pay for accommodation in Poland. These groups will be exempt from the fee
The government proposes new maximum rates of fees charged for accommodation in tourist destinations and health resorts. These groups will not have to pay extra for their stay.
Many tourist destinations in Poland charge local or spa fees, which are included in the prices of our stays. For example, if we spend more than one day in Kołobrzeg, the price of accommodation increases by several PLN per day.
Fees for tourists in Poland go up. Maximum rate for 2027
On Tuesday (September 15), the government adopted a draft amendment to the Act on local taxes and fees (…), which provides for maximum rates of such fees. It was submitted to the first reading of the Sejm, and the new regulations are to enter into force on January 1, 2027.
Municipalities will be able to introduce local fees without having to demonstrate the favorable climatic properties of the location. However, they must have landscape values and appropriate accommodation facilities. This will open the way to charging fees also in places where strict environmental requirements made it impossible – primarily in Krakow, which is crowded with tourists.
As before, the commune council will decide on the introduction of the fee. The maximum rate is PLN 5 per night (in towns with landscape values) and PLN 5.50 in towns or parts of towns located in areas with health resort protection status.
We also know the proposed maximum rate of the spa fee – it cannot be exceeded PLN 6.86 per night. Small increases result from inflation indexation. The rates for 2026 were: PLN 3.46 local fee, PLN 4.89 for towns with protection status and PLN 6.67 spa fee.
The fees will be collected by payers, i.e. entities providing accommodation services (e.g. in hotels, sanatoriums, private accommodation or camping sites). There will be no need to determine whether the guest came for tourist, professional or health purposes.
People are exempt from resort and local fees
Which groups are to be exempt from both fees? The government’s draft lists:
-
people with significant disabilities
-
children up to 16 years of age with a disability certificate
-
people with moderate degrees of disability and visual impairment
-
one person accompanying a disabled person
-
people staying in accommodation for more than 29 consecutive nights (exempt from paying the fee for the entire stay).
Municipalities may, but do not have to, introduce local or spa fees. They may also charge lower fees. For example, until the end of September 2026, in Zator, Lesser Poland, the local tax is PLN 2.80 per day.
The revenues from such fees allow municipalities to finance the needs resulting from increased tourist traffic, such as communication and cleaning.
