Poles are not planning any major purchases for Valentine’s Day this year. Three items dominate the list of the most popular gifts.
As PayPo’s research shows, Poles approach Valentine’s Day spending quite rationally and few people plan a shopping spree. As many as three quarters of us will spend no more than PLN 200 on a gift. The largest group plans to spend from PLN 51 to 100 or from PLN 101 to 200 (29 percent each). For a large part of people, this year’s Valentine’s Day is only symbolic – 17%. respondents intend to limit the amount to PLN 50, treating the gift as a nice addition and not the main element of the celebration. 12 percent are planning expenses in the range of PLN 201-500, and only 7 percent respondents declare a budget above PLN 500.

What gifts do we most often buy for our loved ones on Valentine’s Day? The leaders are flowers (29%), as well as cosmetics and perfumes (28%). Chocolates rank lowest (24%). Interestingly, 12 percent respondents declare that they will make the gift themselves, emphasizing the importance of commitment and individual approach. Every tenth respondent will choose small gadgets, such as mugs or frames. 7% of people do not plan to make any purchases on Valentine’s Day. respondents.
The study shows that nearly half of respondents spend Valentine’s Day evening at home (45%), and one third declares that they will go to a restaurant for dinner. A much smaller group plans to go to the cinema or theater (13%). 2 percent respondents do not organize anything, and 8 percent has not made a decision yet.
Nearly 70 percent study participants believe that an expensive gift is not a good or necessary way to show feelings, and that the gesture and intention itself are key. The authors of the study point out that this is a clear signal of a change in the approach to Valentine’s Day – from demonstrative shopping towards authenticity and closeness. Almost 30 percent respondents believe that an expensive gift is an expression of commitment and the importance of relationships.
