This is how much Poles plan to spend on Christmas. The amount is impressive
Once again, Poles’ spending goes up during Christmas. The amount they plan to spend on groceries and gifts may surprise you.
a shopping frenzy that concerns not only the gifts we intend to give to our loved ones, but also food products. Something finally has to be put on the table.
How much the average Pole intends to spend on Christmas was again examined in the annual report “Poles’ Christmas Portfolio” published by the Polish Bank Association. The results are impressive.
Poles intend to spend the most on gifts
The study shows that a static Pole intends to spend PLN 1,576 during the holidays. Last year it was PLN 86 less – PLN 1,576. This means that spending intentions increased by 5.77%.
The increase is even more visible when asked how much of this amount should be spent on gifts for loved ones. This year, on average, Poles intend to spend PLN 681 for this purpose. Last year, this amount was PLN 565, which means an increase of as much as 20.5%.
Another large part of the planned expenses are those related to groceries and organization of holidays. Here, Poles declare average expenses of PLN 637, i.e. 5%. more than a year earlier. In 2023, this amount was PLN 607, and in 2022, PLN 585.
According to the intended expenses, the amount related to travel and commuting to family will also increase, which will amount to an average of PLN 359. A year earlier it was PLN 318 – 13%. less.
The intentions do not coincide with the price increase
As Dr. Przemysław Barbrich, director of the Communication and PR Team of the Polish Bank Association, says about the report’s results, they show that “despite the rising cost of living, Poles do not give up celebrating Christmas in a traditional way.”
Interestingly, the planned increase in expenses does not translate into the amount of the Christmas bill for a family of four, according to the report’s authors’ calculations. This includes, among others: Christmas tree, carp, fuel and vegetables, in 2024 amounts to PLN 3,804.9, which is only PLN 65.2 more than the year before. For comparison, the increase in 2023 compared to the previous year amounted to PLN 686.
