This is how much parents will spend on preparing the school layette. 300 plus is not enough?
This year, parents will spend on average over PLN 600 on preparing school supplies. This is twice as much as government support.
There are only two weeks left until the start of the school year. It’s no wonder that many parents start preparing a layette. As the Provident Barometer survey shows, the average cost of school supplies this year will be PLN 617.40 per child.
More than half of parents (56%) estimate that they will spend over PLN 500 on preparing the school kit. Total expenses in 2026 are estimated at PLN 5-6 billion.
Every second parent (51%) completes the layette in August. 17 percent admits that he waits until the last week before the school year starts.
The most important criterion when choosing school supplies is price, next to quality and functionality. – Shopping related to the beginning of the school year is a period in which many different expenses accumulate in a very short time – from school supplies and clothing to electronics and sports equipment. For families, this means that even relatively small additional costs become noticeable when they occur over several subsequent purchases. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important not only to find an attractive price for a single product, but also to be able to plan the total cost of purchases more predictably. This year we are focusing on making the final basket value more predictable and ensuring that additional costs do not put further pressure on families’ already heavily stressed August budgets
