Mineral wool has been one of the most frequently chosen materials for attic insulation for years. It provides good thermal and acoustic insulation, and additionally, as a non-flammable material, it increases the protection of the wooden roof structure. In 2026, labor prices depend primarily on the complexity of the work.
Glass or rock wool is used for insulation. Both materials have similar thermal insulation properties, although they differ, among others: weight and stiffness.
What thickness of wool should I choose?
Attic insulation is most often done in two layers – between the rafters and under them. This solution allows you to reduce heat losses and meet the requirements for roof insulation.
Most often, 25–30 cm of mineral wool is used. The thickness of the first layer depends on the structure of the roof truss, while the second layer is selected to obtain the appropriate heat transfer coefficient.
How much does labor cost?
The cost of insulation depends on the complexity of the roof. In simpler projects, contractors estimate the labor at approximately PLN 50-60 per m².
For multi-slope roofs or with numerous roof windows, the rates may increase to PLN 80 per m², and some teams estimate such works as high as PLN 100 per m². The given amounts include the installation of mineral wool, while the installation of plasterboards is billed separately.
Foils and ventilation matter
Effective insulation requires the use of appropriate protective layers. A windproof membrane is installed on the side of the roof covering, and a vapor barrier foil is installed on the inside, which limits the penetration of moisture into the wool.
Proper roof ventilation is equally important. In older structures with full formwork, it is necessary to leave a ventilation gap to prevent moisture in the insulating material.
The most common mistakes when insulating
Experts point out that even good quality wool will not provide the expected results if it is installed incorrectly. The problem may be that the material is laid too loosely or too tightly, which leads to deterioration of the insulating properties.
The most common mistakes also include the formation of thermal bridges and leaky vapor barrier. Improper protection of these elements may cause heat to escape and the insulation to become damp, which reduces the effectiveness of the entire insulation system.
