This is a dilemma that many dishwasher users face. Is it better to leave it open or closed?
Should you leave the dishwasher open or closed right after washing dishes? If you’ve ever used this device, you’ve probably faced this dilemma. It turns out that there’s only one correct answer.
Discussions about the proper use of household appliances are often something we don’t want to start with our parents, brother-in-law or mother-in-law. Especially since everyone has a different approach and often no one is completely convinced that they are right. Meanwhile, it turns out that when it comes to using a dishwasher, you can establish an optimal strategy.
Do we open dishwashers or leave them closed?
The Dutch consumer association has announced to the public that dishwashers should be left closed for a while after the dishwashing program has ended. The optimal time is 15 minutes to half an hour. Then, thanks to the heat being retained inside the appliance, the dishes are dried better and can get a beautiful shine. On the other hand, opening the dishwasher door just after the program has ended can make them more moist and take longer to dry.
What should you do in the case of dishwashers that automatically open after the wash cycle is complete? Here, too, the Dutch have provided an answer. You can then simply close the door of the appliance yourself and let the dishes continue to dry in the heat. The only exceptions here will be wine glasses and other decorative glassware. It is best to take them out and dry them with a steamed linen cloth. They will then shine beautifully. However, you have to be careful when doing this, because the heat increases their susceptibility to cracking.
How to arrange cutlery in the dishwasher basket?
The Dutch also provided an answer to the question about how to arrange cutlery in a deep basket. If we have such a dishwasher, many people decide to arrange everything with the blades facing up, even though it is less safe. We believe that this way the cutlery will clean better. The truth is a bit different. It is best to put the cutlery in alternately, some facing down, some facing up, to leave free spaces between them. In this way, we will most likely take care of removing all food remains.
