This is a big blow to Andrzej Duda. A surprising situation after the presidency
Andrzej Duda will not go to the International Olympic Committee? It turns out that the plans of the former Polish president began to complicate.
A few days ago we reported that the topic of the future of Andrzej Duda in the world of sport appeared again. Let us remind you that in the summer of 2024 the then president was presented in the Polish media, as a potential candidate even for the new head of the International Olympic Committee.
Andrzej Duda will not go to the IOC? The situation was very complicated
Ultimately, after less than a year, the narrative changed. Duda after the end of the presidency was considered – according to RMF FM reports – as a member of the IOC. Such information appeared shortly after Karol Nawrocki came to power as “head of state”. However, it turns out that the ex-presidential may have problems to actually be in the Elite managing the Olympic movement.
Mateusz Puka, a journalist of Wirtualna Polska and sporting fations, wrote more about the case. It seems that the support of the Polish Olympic Committee, headed by a supporter of Duda – president Radosław Piesiewicz – may not be enough to hit the ranks of the IOC.
– If any findings in this matter were made – and that’s doubtful – they are rather outdated. Andrzej Kraśnicki is dead, and Thomas Bach stopped being the chairman of the IOC and lost most of the influence. We have a new head of the IOC, who will want to rearrange the composition of the organization in her own way-said WP/SportoweFakty “a person well-oriented in the meanders of the IOC policy”.
However, this is not the end of problems. Another argument “against” is the presence in the structures of the IOC Mai Włoszczowska. Two -time Olympic runner -up, recently seen on the Tour de Pologne routes as an expert in Eurosport, is a member of the most important organization in the Olympic movement.
Her term of office is not the end only in 2028. And the Olympic card indicates that one country may have no more than one permanent member at the IOC. Włoszczowska is currently not a “permanent member”, but the work of a Polish woman is rated high and there are many indications that in the event of continuing actions, the status of being this “permanent” will become an additional obstacle in the context of any future of Duda in the structures.
The final decision from the IOC will be made not earlier than in February next year (i.e. 2026). Then the organization session will take place, where decisions will be made, including compared to the IOC.
