Data on potato imports to Poland show a clear advantage of one direction. Both on a monthly and annual basis, Germany remains the clear leader. It is from there that most fresh and chilled potatoes, including seed and starch potatoes, come to Poland.

Potato import

In January alone, 1.29 thousand were imported to Poland. tons of potatoes with a total value of PLN 2.81 million. Data from the Central Statistical Office, quoted by the portal topagrar.pl, show that over 60 percent this volume came from Germany. 779 tons of potatoes worth PLN 1.20 million came from this country. This means that our western neighbors not only supplied the most goods, but also earned over a million zlotys from these transactions.

The average price of potatoes imported from Germany was PLN 1.54 per kilogram. It was clearly lower than the average for all imports, which shows that German goods combined a large volume with a relatively low price. This direction was responsible for the largest part of deliveries while maintaining a competitive rate.

Cyprus was in second place in the January ranking. 195 tons of potatoes worth PLN 559,000 were imported from this country. PLN, and the average price was PLN 2.87 per kilogram. As indicated, mainly new potatoes came from Cyprus. Third place was taken by the Netherlands, from which 90 tons of potatoes worth PLN 106,000 came to Poland. zloty. The average price for this direction was PLN 1.18 per kilogram.

France was just behind the Netherlands. 89 tons of potatoes worth PLN 354,000 were imported from this country. PLN, which translated into a price of PLN 4.00 per kilogram. This was one of the highest rates among major suppliers. Next came Belgium with a result of 58 tons and a price of PLN 3.66 per kilogram, Egypt with 31 tons and a rate of PLN 2.67 per kilogram and the United States, from where 30 tons came at an average price of PLN 5.37 per kilogram. Smaller batches of potatoes were also imported from Spain and Morocco. In the case of Morocco, the price was the highest and amounted to PLN 13.64 per kilogram.

Prices on the domestic market

During this period, imports play a complementary role, but in the case of cheaper destinations, they may also influence the price level on the domestic market. The data concerns fresh and chilled potatoes marked with CN code 0701, which also includes seed and starch potatoes.

The scale of imports is even more visible in the data for the entire year 2025. During this time, 179.71 thousand were imported to Poland. tons of potatoes, while a year earlier it was 172.5 thousand. tone. This means an increase in imports year on year. Potatoes came to Poland from 26 countries, both from the European Union and from outside it. Also in this respect, Germany is definitely ahead, from which as many as 107.51 thousand were imported. tone. The next places were taken by the Netherlands with a score of 13.67 thousand. tons and Greece, which supplied 12.26 thousand tons. tone. This shows that the German direction plays a key role in supplying the Polish market with imported potatoes.
