This city resembles Venice. Here tourists do not pay for admission

Mała Wenecja we Francji

Although Venice is said to be one of a kind and absolutely unique, some of the substitute for the Italian lagoon find in France. Just visit the famous coast.

I am talking about Venice of the Cote d’Azur, which is a small town called Port Grimaud. If you associate France only with Paris, Nieca or Cannes, it is time to change it immediately. The aforementioned place is atmospheric, romantic and worth visiting.

Port Grimaud as “Little Venice”

Just look at the photos of Port Grimaud, so that the associations come to the same – channels, water colors and houses as in real Venice. In this city, however, admission fees are not ruled and you do not need to face colossal prices and crowds. Instead, we get access to the beach, as well as calm romantic streets.

Local buildings make a huge impression, and most importantly, most beautiful points are very close to each other, which makes sightseeing easier. There is no shortage of restaurants with local cuisine in the area. The hit is a large sandy beach, where we will relax when we get bored of exploring the city. It is also a good point for spending time actively, because there are available beach volleyball or football fields. In addition, the city is conducive to camping fans. Local campaign is large, comfortable and perfectly adapted for families with children.

The most important local monuments are the ruins of the castle from the 11th century on the picturesque hill, the church of Église Saint-Michel, the historic chapel Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Queste and the Saint-Rch mill. When we see it, it is worth going to the nearby Saint-Tropez, only 10 km away from small Venice.

“Little Venice” with an interesting history

Visiting Port Grimaud will be more pleasant if we get acquainted with the history of this place a bit. It turns out that the Venice of the Cote d’Azur was once a swampy area that in no way was suitable for sightseeing. Everything changed thanks to the architect François Spoerra. He had his vision and implemented her into force in the 1960s. Thanks to this, today it is often called the father of this city.

“Little Venice” is located on the water, and today the land and sea meet there simultaneously. Part of everything are characteristic architecture and colorful low houses. In vain to look for skyscrapers or modern elements there, everything is tailored so that it resembles the famous Italian city as much as possible. If you want to feel its atmosphere in a more intimate edition, it will definitely be possible here.
