This beautiful island can be passed in one day. The views will be remembered longer

Malta loved by Poles has a smaller sister. There are fewer crowds on this island, and on each side we will find charming viewpoints.
For several years, one of the favorite European directions of Poles for holiday rest and short trips out of season is Malta, an island located about 80 km south of Italy. Her smaller sister, Gozo island, is not always visited during the first visit to this country, and also has a lot to offer. It fits well with the tourist trend of 2025 – that is “Slowcation”, holidays in slow motion, less focused on “ticking” the most crowded attractions.
By ferry to a smaller island
Malta is trying to maintain idyllic and muted character of Gozo. That is why mainly boutique hotels (with a more intimate character) are created there. Everything that is related to physical activity and admiring nature – climbing for hills or full -day kayak expeditions, as well as local flavors (after all, will be the European gastronomy region in 2026) is part of the “Slow” trend (after all Tourist organizations.
Ferries run from Malta to Gozo. Just half an hour of a cruise to get off on an island with a slightly larger area than Manhattan. The delightful cliffs and viewpoints are located both on the northern and southern part of the island.
The most famous – azure window immortalized in the series “Game of Thrones” fell to the sea in 2017. That’s why it’s worth looking for your favorite place. The Rock Bridge of Il-Mielaħ, on the northwestern coast of the island, is considered a less known equivalent of the lost viewpoint. Tourists who will stop in the city of Għarb will have the closest to him.
Gozo on foot. “The walk will take the whole day”
The small distances and the network of buses connected to the capital, Victoria are conducive to organizing sightseeing on their own.
– If someone likes to walk a lot, you can create paths from south to north or east to west. Then the passage of this island will take all day (its maximum width is just over 7 km) – says Marcin Jezierski.
By bus, tourists will also get close to the picturesque place where the inhabitants have been using the benefits of salt water for centuries – the salt pan (there are several such points on the coast, including in the city of Zebbug).
– The culture of obtaining salt in Malta dates back to Roman times. However, it was only the appearance of the order of the St. John led to the professionalization of this business in this island country. For centuries, the vast salt of salt was the heart of the local economy, and the sea obtained from the sea was sold all over Europe – says Marcin Jezierski.
Panwie, pools carved in the rocks, fill with water. Then the salt evaporates from them, which is collected by hand. The place is well known to tourists, but the pictures are not visible. From the bus stops in Zebbug you can go to him in a walk in 20-30 minutes.
Victoria and viewpoint
The pace of sightseeing will slightly accelerate in the central part of Gozo. Once we enjoy the view of high cliffs, it is impossible to ignore the local capital, Victoria (discount) located inland. The name was given to the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria when the island was under the reign of Great Britain. The main point of this town is the medieval citadel.
– This is a very well -known vantage point, but it allows you to look at the island and see how it differs from more urbanized Malta. From this place there is a view of agricultural areas, low buildings and a lot of space – says Marcin Jezierski.
Diving and kayaking trips
The small area of Gozo makes many guests decide to explore the island in one day, but like any tourist country, this one also wants to encourage them to stay longer. On the web you can easily find suggestions for active recreation, e.g. diving expeditions. They are also organized by Polish companies. Rock formations will also be different during the mentioned canoeing rafting with a guide. Trips of this type last even all day.
If we care about visiting in a smaller crowd, it is worth considering a trip in the period from November to March. There is a spring atmosphere on the Mediterranean island. Gozo is also considered more green than Malta, so the conditions for walks will be favorable. The island’s authorities wanted guests to visit her out of high season that two years ago they granted subsidies resting here from October to March.
Italian influence, and at the same time a calmer atmosphere – maybe this is the reason why Polish tourists find themselves in Malta and Gozo very well. Airlines also notice interest, which regularly add new connections to this island from our country. It remains to be hoped that the balance between the peaceful rhythm of the inhabitants of the inhabitants and the growing interest of foreign guests will be maintained.
