They want to buy Greenland and change its name. The details of the idea are shocking

Politicians of the Republican Party presented a bill that would authorize President Donald Trump to negotiate on the acquisition of Greenland. Along with the “purchase” of the island, its name would change to “Red, White, and Blueland” (red-white-blue land).
The bill was presented by the Republican Congressmen Buddy Carter. He assumes not only the start of negotiations on the purchase of Greenland, but also obliges the Federal Government to change the name of the island in official documents to “Red, White, and Bluuland”.

Carter argues that such a move would strengthen the national security of the United States. In an interview with The New York Post, he emphasized that thanks to the attachment of “Red, White, and Blueland” the United States will become “greater than ever.”
He also added that President Trump rightly recognizes the purchase of Greenland as a priority for national security and will proudly welcome its inhabitants in the “most free” country in the world.
Historical attempts to buy Greenland
The United States does not express interest in the acquisition of Greenland for the first time. Already in 1867, the first proposal to buy the largest island of the world appeared. In 1946, the US offered Denmark $ 100 million in gold and exchange of land in exchange for Greenland, but the offer was rejected by the Danish government. This time, however, President Trump would like to force sales by imposing duties on Denmark.
Greenland and Denmark reactions
Proposals for buying Greenland meet with unequivocal opposition from both Danish and Greenland authorities. The Prime Minister of Greenland, Múte Egeded, strongly emphasized that “the Greenlands do not want to be Americans.”
Also, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, pointed out that Greenland is not for sale, but is open to cooperation.
Greenland’s strategic importance
Greenland is of key strategic importance due to its location in the Arctic and the richness of natural raw materials, such as rare land minerals, oil and natural gas. Climate change and melting of glaciers open new operation opportunities for these resources and create new shipping routes, which further increases the interest in this territory.
Proposals for buying Greenland by the United States are concerned about the international arena. Great Britain reminded about the historical agreement of 1917, which gives her the right of first refusal in the case of the sale of the island.
It is worth adding that the possible purchase of an island can affect the US relations with allies in NATO and with other countries interested in the Arctic, such as Russia and China.
