They said “stop” to the umbrella tricksters. Equipment confiscated on the beach
The coastguard in Orbetello, Tuscany, has taken decisive action against beach swindlers, confiscating equipment left overnight to occupy the sites.
Italian services in Tuscany have decided to take up the fight against a phenomenon that has taken on far too large dimensions in recent years. It involves dishonestly “booking” places on free beaches by leaving sunbeds, umbrellas and other equipment there. Thanks to this, the clever ones could count on a certain place by the water the next day.
Italians are fighting against taking up space on the beach
The coast guard appeared on the beaches of Orbello and on the island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples and confiscated equipment left there overnight, including 640 parasols and 15 sunbeds. The operations described here were carried out on the night from Monday to Tuesday, August 13.
The fight against this unattractive custom is also being carried out in other parts of Italy. Similar methods of occupying space in popular tourist spots are illegal in this country. The regulations require that beaches remain empty from dusk to dawn. It is worth recalling that paid beaches dominate in this country, where you have to rent an umbrella and sunbeds. For the whole family, this can be a considerable expense.
More and more expensive beaches in Italy
Codacons has prepared a list of average costs that tourists can expect on Italian beaches. Renting an umbrella and two sunbeds on public beaches is associated with an average expense of 32-35 euros (about 150 zlotys) per day. Depending on the location, the final cost may increase.
Tourists who prefer more “luxurious” conditions will pay up to several hundred euros to rent an umbrella and sunbeds. “A beach bed with two seats, in the first row in the “Exclusive” zone costs as much as 696 euros in August,” we read in the report. In Forte dei Marmi in Tuscany, a tent placed on the beach with a sofa, beds and a table will cost slightly less, 600 euros.
