They laid off the workers, now they are selling the factory. What awaits the area? The investor reveals his plans

The Calfrost plant in Kalisz has been closed and the land has been put up for sale. What will happen to the former frozen food factory and what are the owner’s plans?

The Ukrainian owner of the Calfrost company, after previously terminating cooperation with all employees, decided to sell the plant. The land, which is currently for sale, is ideal for housing investments – informs the Kalisz “Gazeta Wyborcza”. The investor also explains the reasons for purchasing this property.

A few months ago, in April, 50 employees of the Calfrost plant in Kalisz received notices. The company, which had specialized in the production of frozen food for years, completely ceased its operations at the end of June. The property is owned by the Ukrainian company Trzy Niedźwiedzie, whose president is 48-year-old Dmytro Ushmayev.

Three Bears is a Ukrainian company that mainly produces ice cream and frozen food. Ushmayev himself used to be a member of the pro-Russian Party of Regions, which caused some controversy. The company also owns the land of the former Krzysztof porcelain factory in Wałbrzych.

Calfrost’s properties were valued at PLN 12.9 million and put up for sale. According to the website wrenieruchomosci.pl, the offer includes three plots in the center of Kalisz, on which there are various industrial buildings, office buildings, warehouses, and cold stores. This area has full industrial infrastructure, which makes it suitable for various types of production, warehouse and office activities. The offer description emphasizes the flexibility of the facilities, which can be adapted to many industries and investor needs.

According to the information on the Calfrost website, the plant was involved in the purchase and processing of vegetables and some fruits, the production of frozen food, and the provision of refrigeration services, such as freezing, packaging and storage of food. The company also conducted wholesale and retail sales of both its own products and third-party goods.

Gazeta Wyborcza recalls that Nordis, the owner of Calfrosta, was founded in 1968 in Zielona Góra as a state-owned enterprise. In 1997, it was privatized, and a year later it began taking over other refrigeration plants, including those in Kalisz, Wrocław, Wałbrzych, Opole and Białystok. Nordis also invested in new refrigeration plants in cities such as Zamość, Zabrze and Poznań, but ultimately the company struggled with financial problems resulting from excessive investments.
