They go to the Baltic Sea only in February and March. Prices aren’t the only reason

Morze Bałtyckie

February and March are the best time to go to the Baltic Sea to reap the greatest benefits of iodine.

It is said that iodine concentration in the Baltic Sea is highest in winter. However, this is not influenced by temperature at all. This element is most abundant in the air when there is a strong wind and the sea is rough – and although such conditions occur many times in summer, the winter period of storms is remembered by tourists as the best time to “get some oxygen”. February and March are great months to take advantage of free “iodine therapy” and relax in one of the Baltic Sea resorts. Prices are still very low.

Iodine on the Baltic Sea only in winter? It’s a myth

Iodine is present in the air in the Baltic Sea all year round, not only in winter. Despite this, it is generally accepted that December, January, February and March are the best months for health-promoting trips to the coast. Some seniors visit the Polish seaside only during this period, completely avoiding the holiday season or May weekend. As patient.gov.pl writes, the highest concentration of this element is at the seaside, up to 300 meters from the shoreline. Fresh sea fish are also a very good source of iodine. “The most important function of iodine is to participate in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Therefore, the marine climate is particularly favorable for people struggling with hypothyroidism,” we read.

Amber and a mysterious forest

In winter, you can enjoy a standard of relaxation on the Baltic Sea, which in summer could significantly strain your budget. But there are also those who would still choose winter, even if the offers were not attractive. Not only for iodine.

The time of storms is the best time to see the most important treasures of the Baltic Sea with your own eyes. In winter, it is worth going to the beaches in search of amber washed up by the waves. A walk along the river bank may also end with another extraordinary discovery – at this time of year on the Baltic Sea, you can admire a flooded forest in two places.
