They commented on the events in Iga Świątek’s match. “Overwhelmed by nervousness”
Iga Świątek defeated Warwara Graczowa in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati after a three-set battle. The Frenchmen commented on what happened in this meeting.
Iga Świątek returned to competition after the Olympic Games in Paris. During the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, she received a bye in the first round. She played her first match against Warwara Graczowa. It seemed that the Pole would win easily, because she triumphed in the first set 6:0, and in the second she was already leading 5:2. But then the real troubles began.
Świątek survived difficult moments
In the second set, Graczowa won 10-8 in a tie break. Later, the Polish representative returned to good play. In the third set, she confidently dealt with her opponent, winning 6-2.
Such changes in the match did not escape the media. The daily “L”Equipe” admitted directly that Świątek was under pressure in the clash with Graczowa. However, the journalists did not take a position on whether it was the weaker level of the world ranking leader that caused this, or the great play of the French representative. It was emphasized, however, that the Pole could be seen to be very nervous.
“Warwara Graczowa, dominated in the first set by Iga Świątek, managed to put the world’s number one racket under pressure in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, but ultimately lost in three sets,” we can read on the website of the newspaper “L’Equipe”.
“The match between the suddenly nervous Świątek and the completely relaxed Graczewa was never the same. The Frenchwoman defended five match points and took the game to the deciding set,” it added.
A difficult task for the Christmas Eve
The match with Graczewa has already become history. So far, our tennis player has faced her twice and won both times. In the third round, however, she will have a difficult journey. Marta Kostiuk will appear in her path. The Ukrainian has shown more than once that she can cause problems for the best tennis players in the world.
