The 3G network is underway in Poland. The technology, which was created at the beginning of the 21st century and a decade ago was the basis of mobile internet, it gives way to faster and more modern solutions.
Operators in Poland turn off the 3G network to release the bands for modern 4G and 5G technologies. They offer, among others Faster internet, better quality of conversations, smaller delays, or new possibilities, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) or services for intelligent cities.
As Radio ZET reminds, T-Mobile ended the scale of 3G as early as 2023. Orange decided to carry out this process in stages and is planned to turn off at the end of this year. Who will have to replace the phone?
What does all this mean for phone users? According to the station, the changes will be felt primarily by people using older phones, especially those produced before 2012. This applies to, among others Classic mobile phones with a physical keyboard, older Android smartphones (up to version 4.0), iPhones to the 4 model, 3G tablets, but also some smartphones without support for 4G/LTE produced before 2016.
These phones will lose access to the Internet, which will mean the inability to use e.g. GPS, applications, messengers or mobile banking.
To check if the phone uses 3G, just look at the network indicator. If the letter “H” or “H+” appears next to the signal, it means that the device uses this network. In this case, it is worth checking in the settings whether the phone supports the 4G or LTE network. If this is not the case, then after turning off 3G the internet will stop working. To continue using the mobile internet, users of older models will have to replace the phone.
