Thailand islands attract tourists, which we see the effects this year. The excess of visitors caused that new rules were introduced there.
I am talking about the Similan Islands located in the Andaman Sea off the coast of the province of Phang Nga. To find them, you have to try, but tourists have been doing well for years. Similan islands closed
On May 16, 2025, the Similan Islands were closed for five months. All because there were too many tourists, and the local nature demanded regeneration. Now she will have a chance to rest and rebuild her ecosystem. The suspension of tourist traffic has been announced a long time ago. This is part of a large plan, because this is how it is to be every year. Similar rules apply or have already concerned other islands.
Although access to the islands of Similan was never the easiest one – you can reach mainly through the Tab Lamu port, located south of Khao Lak in the province of Phang Nga – it did not deter travelers. Now connections are carried out from mid -October to mid -May, and the standard journey lasts about three hours.
We will not come back only on October 15. The head of the Similan Islands National Park, Warawut Saengthong, informed about the current situation. He said that until then we would not book accommodation. The park team will work for nature and refine the tourist plan for the future. Admission only with booking
This is not the end of changes and restrictions. Thailand also announced that the electronic reservation system will be in force on the islands. Only those who will buy an introduction will come in. Restrictions will apply to both tourists and locals. The former will be identified using passport numbers, others will be identified by the Thaiid system. Penalt will be punishable for providing bad data.
Document control is to help you count the visitors’ accurately. Tickets can be bought in advance or on the day of the visit, but at the latest by 8 am. After all, the daily list of tourists will be closed.
