Devil’s heads and Park Kokořínsko
Devil’s heads are really unique rock formations that resemble human faces. Tourists come to the Kokořínsko park especially to see them because they are a unique attraction. This is up to 9 meters high and some people associate with an American hit, a monument to Mount Rushmore, consisting of four heads of US Presidents in South Dakota. In fact, this one is much younger than the Czech attraction – this one has existed since 1840, and the sculpture from the States was created about 100 years later.
What exactly are the devil’s heads in the Czech Republic? They were created by the local artist Václav Levý acting in the 19th century, probably realizing only an artistic vision and referring to fairy -tale devils. The sculpture can be seen completely free, and the brave admire it not only from below, but also go up and treat it as a viewpoint.
The attraction can be found in the coniferous forest on the village of Želíza near Mělník. We will get a specially marked out blue tourist trail. There will also be other artist’s works in the area. The hit is, for example, the Klácelka cave. Before her there are reliefs depicting, among others Jan Žižka, Prokop Holého, Ziemka Zásmuckého. Inside, in turn, we will see scenes from the Czech fairy tale “Ferina Lišak”. Besides, being in the area, you should not skip the castle of Kokořín on the Pšovka River. If you want to go there, we don’t have to do a long trip from Poland.
Attraction 80 km from Poland
Access to the devil’s heads from Poland is not complicated. The famous attraction is located only 80 km from our border, although it all depends, from which we set off. The place is located simultaneously about 50 km from Prague. Visits in the Landscape Park can be planned even if we are on a trip in the Czech capital, they will be an interesting attraction.
If we leave Wrocław by car, we should reach about 4 hours. It will be faster if we live closer to the Czech Republic. After crossing the border with the Czechs, you should go towards the village of Mother, Dubá and Želíza. It is best to drive the parkoviště Čertovy hlavy parking point into navigation.
