There will finally be more places in sanatoriums. PLN 430 million for patients
The state-owned hotel company wants to expand its spa base. For PLN 430 million, it will modernize or demolish and rebuild several sanatoriums.
Polish society is aging the fastest in Europe and there is no prospect of reversing this situation. People over 60 years of age already constitute 25%. society. By 2050, the percentage of seniors will increase to over 40%. – we are talking about about 14 million people who should not be financially ignored.
These are the reasons why more and more Poles appreciate the advantages of staying in a health resort. Every year, the number of people willing to go to the sanatorium increases. Polski Holding Hotelowy (PHH) wants to take full advantage of a trend that will not end soon.
The sanatorium is a sure deal. Poland needs more rooms in sanatoriums
The average waiting time for a spa treatment in 2026 is currently approximately seven to eight months. Residents of the Pomeranian, Silesian, Masovian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships wait the longest to go to the waters. The shortest waiting time is in Podlasie, Warmia and Mazury and in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Poland has only 48 health resorts, and for years they have a limited number of sanatoriums (190), health resort hospitals (40) and beds for patients (about 45,000). They don’t stand empty – they are used all year round. A stay in a sanatorium can be arranged privately, but places in sanatoriums are purchased in advance by the National Health Fund (NFZ), the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund. This is a sure-fire deal from which PHH also wants to earn more than before.
Two sanatoriums will soon be taken out of circulation. They will undergo a major renovation
As announced by Rafał Szmytke, president of PHH, of the 53 hotel and sanatorium facilities belonging to the group, 12 will undergo thorough modernization and expansion. Six will be demolished and larger and more modern facilities will be built in their place – with more rooms for patients and of a better standard.
– Sanatorium facilities in Kołobrzeg (Chalkozyn) and Dąbki (Geovita) will be modernized in the near future. This is an investment of almost PLN 150 million, and its effect will be to increase the number of rooms from 90 to 300. The total budget that we have secured for additional investment in this part of our portfolio exceeds PLN 430 million – explained Rafał Szmytke in “Puls Biznesu”. The first two reconstructions are scheduled to be completed in 2029.
