There will be no ban on selling alcohol at stations? An important declaration

Among the government’s priorities presented today, there was no ban on the sale of alcohol at stations. However, it cannot be ruled out that this issue will return.

The minister for supervision over the implementation of government policy Maciej Berek presented 58 government priorities today. Among them, they lacked a ban on the sale of alcohol at gas stations. – At the moment, we do not have in the government process of this project – said Berek.

Let us remind you that the bill in this matter was prepared by former health minister Izabela Leszczyna. He assumed a ban on the sale of alcohol at at night stations. As RMF FM reminds, dismissed as part of the July Reconstruction of the Leszczyn government, she did not manage to carry out the project by the Council of Ministers. Proposals of the amendment to the Act on Upbringing in Sobriety and Counteracting Alcoholism and the Act on healthcare services financed from public funds were forwarded to public consultations in March last year. The Ministry of Development and Technology approached the proposal. Representatives of the gas station do not hide that limiting alcohol sales would significantly affect their business.

– At the gas station, alcohol is a complement to a wide store offer. Its exclusion from the station’s offer would weaken competitiveness towards other retail outlets in which alcohol availability would not be limited. Therefore, the proposed ban on the sale of alcohol at gas stations will not only not change consumer habits, but can also be disproportionate interference in the free market mechanisms and a violation of the principles of equal treatment of business entities – said Ewa Wadas, Senior Trading Manager at BP Polska.

A ban on selling alcohol at gas stations. Subject closed?

Minister Berek does not rule out that the topic of the ban on selling alcohol at gas stations will return. – I think that with the new Minister of Health (Jolanta SobieraƄska-Grenda-ed.) We will be able to return to what decisions we make. I do not want to declare it for the minister – said the minister for supervision over the implementation of government policy.

The SW Research survey conducted a year ago for “Wprost” shows that 48 percent want a ban on selling alcohol at gas stations. Poles, and 35 percent is the opposite of the opinion. Less than 17 percent respondents have no opinion on this issue.
