In the Tatra Mountains, the problem of breaking the rules applicable in protected areas has once again arisen. It was published on social media on the Tatry Official profile a recording showing a group of young tourists bathing in one of the Tatra ponds. It is not known where exactly the recording was recorded.

According to the authors of the post, the people seen in the recording came from the Netherlands and were aware of the applicable bans. As reported, other tourists also noticed their behavior. “The boys in the recording were from the Netherlands and knew about the ban. Almost every Polish tourist pointed out to them. Please do not swim in the Tatra ponds,” it was emphasized.
Tatra lakes and ponds are delicate reservoirs in which natural processes occur that require special caution. Even minor human interference can affect water quality and the organisms living in these places.
“They may be able to afford the fine, but the amount of sunscreen, urine and other harmful substances in such beautiful and clean water is terrible,” they wrote. “Swimming in Tatra ponds is prohibited. Let’s protect the Tatra Mountains, behave responsibly and respect nature. These rules do not apply without a reason,” it added.

The Tatra National Park has been reminding for years that mountain ponds are not places intended for swimming. Their purity results from, among others, due to the lack of intensive human activity and harsh natural conditions. Introducing cosmetics, detergents or other pollutants into the water may disturb the natural balance.
The recording caused a wave of comments on the Internet. Many Internet users did not hide their outrage at the tourists’ behavior. “In my opinion, there should be greater financial penalties, plus community service for TPN”; “A fine for anyone who doesn’t follow the rules”; “Fine from EUR 1,000 and up. When I read that from PLN 50, I burst into laughter. The fines should be shocking,” we read.
On the other hand, commentators drew attention to the fact that “there are countries where you can swim freely in mountain lakes, e.g. Switzerland, where this even applies to reservoirs in national parks, e.g. in Sweden or Austria.”
