There was a lot of uproar in Wrocław. President Jacek Sutryk pointed out the culprits
In recent days, there has been a lot of noise around the football club Śląsk Wrocław. Another matter is the alleged liquidation of the WKS women’s football section.
Allegedly, because a lot was clarified in this context – after a special statement from the President of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk. Recently, there has been a lot of confusion around the women’s section of Silesia football. It turned out that WKS football players were to cease to exist. The players were faced with a choice they didn’t really want. The only chance to continue playing in Wrocław? The women’s section of Ślęza Wrocław – this was the direction indicated for the future by WKS.
Jacek Sutryk with a strong statement. The president of Wrocław pointed out the culprits
The above-mentioned President Sutryk did not agree with this state of affairs. The ownership situation of Śląsk is such that we are talking about a professional club – but in city hands. Therefore, the City of Wrocław has the final say on key issues, and this can be said in the context of the future of the women’s football section.
Over the last dozen or so days, the club from Wrocław has lost a lot of image. The players openly appealed for a change of decision, and virtually the entire domestic football community stood on their side.
Effect? The above-mentioned statement was published on Tuesday (i.e. March 24), late afternoon. President Sutryk spoke.
He not only assured that the WKS soccer players’ section would continue to function, but also openly pointed out the culprits behind the whole mess.
Here is the text of the statement:
Sport was, is and will be important for Wrocław. He was, is and will be important to me also personally.
It was my decisions in 2020 that led to the agreement as a result of which the KS AZS Wrocław football players joined WKS Śląska Wrocław. At that time, as a result of agreements, the AMP Futbol and Blind Football sections also found their place under the wings of Śląsk Wrocław. The goal was to create a comprehensive sports project for everyone. At the same time, the reason for this decision was the announcements appearing in the public space at that time that the licensing requirement for top league teams would be to have a women’s section.
We did it.
Despite these actions, any discussion about Śląsk Wrocław – especially in the context of its financing – still does not take into account these numerous facts. Whenever there is talk about financing WKS Śląsk Wrocław from public funds, these issues are emphasized and perceived only in the context of the functioning of the first team, ignoring other mentioned “sports formats” functioning and making up the entire WKS Śląsk Wrocław company and the resulting costs.
In this sense, I hope that the ongoing discussion will have educational value for many. Especially since many people speaking on this matter do not have sufficient knowledge in this area.
To sum up: it was never anyone’s intention or intention to institutionally weaken or liquidate the women’s section of Śląsk Wrocław.
After numerous attacks on the city hall in recent months related to the issue of co-financing the WKS Śląsk Wrocław club, a decision was made to look for the best sports and organizational solutions that will strengthen – in this case – women’s football, and at the same time show the cost structure of this activity even more clearly than before.
I regret to say that this task, which I entrusted to the club’s management – in the person of Remigiusz Jezierski – and on the city side to my deputy, president Renata Granowska, was not performed properly. The above-mentioned people and my colleagues did not complete the tasks assigned to them.
Due to the above, as well as the emerging doubts, I finally declare that the women’s section and the Śląsk academy will function within the structure of WKS Śląsk Wrocław – in the Śląsk company or foundation, owned by WKS Śląsk SA. Therefore, there is no threat that anything will change in the club’s current activities, and football players will continue to play, representing the colors of Śląsk Wrocław.
I hope that this statement settles all reports appearing in the media.
Śląsk has not had the easiest days in football recently. WPROST reported on the huge confusion surrounding the league match WKS – Wisła Kraków. The meeting finally took place, but the Krakow team… did not come to Wrocław. Therefore, a walkover was granted in favor of Śląsk, but also a million-dollar fine from the PZPN Disciplinary Committee – for the hosts – due to not allowing visiting fans into the stands.
As if that wasn’t enough, two leading WKS players were attacked in Wrocław last weekend. Piotr Samiec-Talar, team captain, and Patryk Sokołowski, an important figure in the second line of the Betclic 1st League vice-leader. The second one… has just undergone surgery after breaking his jaw and will undergo many weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the pitch.
The withdrawal of the decision to liquidate the WKS women’s football section is positive news. Although, as we mentioned, the Wrocław club has once again lost much more than it has gained in terms of image in recent weeks – also in this case.
