The mushroom season in Poland is gaining momentum. The first specimens are already appearing in the forests. What types are the most popular now and where can you fill your basket with fresh mushrooms?

In May, morels, boletes, boletes, bay boletes and meadow mushrooms appear in Polish forests. According to forecasts by forecasters, this month the monthly rainfall and average temperature are expected to be within the limits of the long-term norm from 1991-2020. This means that we can expect both occasional rains and periods of sunshine, which are ideal conditions for mushroom growth.

Where to check if mushrooms are edible?

We remind you that if you have any doubts whether the collected mushrooms are edible, you can check it at the nearest sanitary and epidemiological station. Mushroom experts or mushroom classifiers are on duty there. Importantly, mushroom experts evaluate fresh or dried mushrooms, while mushroom classifiers only deal with fresh specimens – recalled the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Gorzów Wielkopolski.

It is also worth using the mushroom atlas, which contains detailed information about these fruiting bodies, including: their places of occurrence, as well as the necessary photos showing individual species. Atlases can be purchased online and in bookstores.
