There is a successor to Radosław Piesiewicz! The choice aroused considerable controversy
PZKosz has a new president. It was Grzegorz Bachański, elected during Monday’s General Reporting and Electoral Meeting of the Federation’s Delegates.
It is worth recalling that the early meeting of PZKosz took place due to the resignation of the current head of the basketball federation in Poland, Radosław Piesiewicz, from the position of president. He remains the head of the Polish Olympic Committee. In the case of PZKosz, Piesiewicz has been in charge since November 2018.
Grzegorz Bachański is again the president of PZKosz!
In the case of the elections on October 21, there were no surprises. Grzegorz Bachański triumphed with a decisive advantage. Interestingly, this is his return to the position of president of PZKosz. In 2011, he defeated Roman Ludwiczuk and spent two terms in charge of the basketball federation. Now history has come full circle and Bachański will begin his third attempt at managing Polish basketball.
– Thank you very much for your trust and the large number of votes. Your support is a huge amount of trust for me. I would like to thank my rivals for constructive talks during the pre-campaign period and I am now inviting them to cooperate for the benefit of Polish basketball. For the first time in history, we had five candidates for the position of president, and the campaign was substantive and conducted in a positive tone, admitted Bachański after the election results were announced.
It is worth adding that the new/old president of PZKosz received as many as 74 out of 85 votes cast. Only Filip Kenig remained on the opponents’ side. He received 11 of the 85 votes cast. During the meeting, the following people resigned from running: Jacek Jakubowski, Łukasz Koszarek and Elżbieta Nowak.
Bachański’s choice in social media caused… a lot of confusion. The following spoke: Mirosław Noculak. Formerly a basketball coach and activist, currently a commentator of basketball matches.
“Transparency! Difficult word. The Sejm of the Republic of Poland may broadcast its proceedings, but you will not be able to stream the General Meeting of PZKosz online. I am convinced that the basketball community would be happy to hear the speeches of all candidates. The Middle Ages, I know that the philosopher specialized in this – the force of habit,” Noculak admitted on Monday via TT.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about upcoming changes in PZKosz. However, as it turns out, at least on paper, the boss who ruled the federation before Piesiewicz’s arrival returns. The coming months will probably show how this will translate into the coming years in PZKosz and the general view of Polish basketball.
