PlusLiga: Bartosz Kurek’s injury. Bad luck for ZAKSA captain and the Polish national team

An unfortunate incident occurred during the 1st round of PlusLiga, in which ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle played away with PGE Projekt Warszawa. Already in the first set, with the score 10:9 for the hosts, Kurek received an unfortunate blow from the ball. After bouncing off the court, it hit straight into the face, specifically in the area of the attacker’s eye.

Kurek immediately asked for a change, and shortly afterwards he was in the locker room. The attacker did not return to the pitch, and after the first set he was transported for further diagnostics, already outside the Torwar hall. ZAKSA lost the match 0:3, the MVP of the match was chosen Bartłomiej Bołądź, attacker of PGE Projekt.

Kurek’s place on the pitch was taken by Mateusz Rećko. The volleyball player, who is making his debut this season at the PlusLiga level, performed quite well, coping without complexes on the difficult terrain of the bronze medalists from the previous competitions. There is no doubt, however, that ZAKSA will need Kurek to achieve the goals set in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Additionally, the captain is an important figure not only on, but also off the pitch. This is an added value in the ranks of the team led by coach Andrea Giani.

All that remains is to wish Kurek a speedy recovery.
