Aleksandra Mirosław won the gold medal at the Paris Games. The first such medal for Poland was won by a speed climb. The bronze medal went to Aleksandra Kałucka!
Wednesday’s competition on the Olympic climbing wall began with the quarterfinal phase. Polish fans immediately had a lot to be happy about, because after two starts it became clear that the competition at the games would reach a Polish semifinal.
Aleksandra Mirosław won the quarterfinal against the Spaniard Romero Perez, while Aleksandra Kałucka won against the Chinese Zhou. The competition ladder was arranged in such a way that the Polish women ran into each other already in the medal zone. It should be added that Mirosław made it to the top in 6.35 seconds, and Kałucka slightly slower, with a result of 6.49 seconds.

In a direct, Polish duel, Mirosław defeated Kałucka – but the competition was truly worthy of the games. The winner achieved 6.19 s. Kałucka, on the other hand, was a bit slower, but still beat her personal record, climbing to the top with a time of 6.34 s.
In the fight for bronze, Kałucka faced the Indonesian Sallsabillah. The race for gold was a duel between Mirosław and the Chinese Deng. Kałucka won the medal in great style. The Indonesian Sallsabillah made a mistake, but it doesn’t change the fact that the Pole came out on top with a time of 6.53 seconds. After the triumph, tears of emotion appeared on Kałucka’s face.
The last to compete was Mirosław against Deng. The Polish athlete withstood the pressure of being the favorite, number one among the seeds, the world record holder. Reaching for the first gold for Poland at the Paris Games. Mirosław came out on top with a time of 6.10 seconds. However, the Chinese athlete pushed hard until the end, achieving 6.18 seconds – her personal best.
Six medals for the Polish team at the Paris Olympics
Poland has six Olympic medals to its name from the competition in the French capital.
The first to win the Olympic vice-championship was Klaudia Zwolińska, a whitewater kayaker. The bronze medal was then added by the Polish epee fencers, who snatched the team success by winning the match for 3rd place against the Chinese after a great fight.
The men responded to the women’s successes. The bronze medal was won by rowers, the Polish doubles team consisting of Dominik Czaja, Fabian Barański, Mirosław Ziętarski and Mateusz Biskup. On Friday, August 2, Iga Świątek added a bronze medal. She was the first in the history of the Polish Olympic movement to win an Olympic medal in tennis.
The next two medals were successes in the speed climbing, two Aleksandras – Mirosław with gold and Kałucka with bronze.
Poland also has a “virtual” medal, not yet included in the official record, but already certain – looking at the competition. We are talking about the success of boxer Julia Szeremeta. The Polish athlete found herself in the best four in the 57 kg category. And since there are no fights for bronze in boxing, the Polish competitor can already enjoy a place on the podium at the 2024 Olympics.
