There were no surprises among the call-ups for the United Cup tournament, scheduled for late December and early January. Iga Świątek will play for the Polish national team.
It is worth recalling that the first edition of the United Cup took place in 2023. This representative competition, held at the turn of the year in Australia, replaced the earlier international competition called the Hopman Cup. Interestingly, in that competition, the Polish team reached the final twice. In 2014, they finally lost (1:2) to France, and a year later triumphed against the USA (2:1). The winning duo was Agnieszka Radwańska and Jerzy Janowicz, beating Serena Williams and John Isner.

In the case of the United Cup history, Polish tennis is also doing quite well. Two finals have been played so far, and one of them – last year’s (2023/24) – featured the Polish national team. Ultimately, Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz lost to the German team, represented by Angelika Kerber (lost to Świątek), Alex Zwieriew (won to Hurkacz) and doubles Laura Siegemund / Alexander Zwieriew (defeated by Świątek/Hurkacz duo). In the premiere edition, the USA crushed Italy 4-0 in the final.
It is already known that there will be no changes in the composition of the Polish national team. The following people will fight for success in United Cup 2025: Iga Świątek, Alicja Rosolska, Maja Chwalińska, Kamil Majchrzak and Jan Zieliński.
Dawid Celt will not be the captain of the Polish team!
Interestingly, the team captain will not be well known for this role, among others. in the Billie Jean King Cup, Dawid Celt. The interested party himself informed about his absence in a conversation on the “Break Point” channel on YouTube. Additionally, it will not be Agnieszka Radwańska, a former tennis player experienced in this type of events, and Celta’s life partner. So who will play this captaincy role? This is not known yet.
Poland will play in the United Cup 2025 group competition in Sydney. The national team will face Norway (December 30) and the Czech Republic (January 1). The competition will take place in women’s singles, men’s singles and mixed doubles.
