The wall of the tenement house suddenly collapsed. The resident filmed the whole thing
One of the tenement houses, located in the Łódź Polesie district, partially collapsed on Saturday. As indicated by the local website tulodz.pl, this is related to the work being carried out – a railway tunnel is being dug under the building.
The editorial office reports that the tenement house was damaged during work being carried out underneath it. On Friday night, one of the walls broke off. A day later, in the afternoon, there was a loud noise. It turned out that a large part of the building had collapsed to the ground.
A tunnel is being dug under Łódź. On Friday, the services were informed about damage to the ceiling – between the ground floor and the basement. As Brigadier Jędrzej Pawlak – spokesman for the Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service in Łódź – informed tulodz.pl – 25 square meters of the element were destroyed.
The tenement houses were built at the beginning of the 20th century.
It is worth adding that the city reacted to everything well in advance. Due to the tunneling, residents were relocated two weeks ago, while the tunneling shield passed nearby, under the properties. That is why no one was hurt.
The area is appropriately secured – it is not allowed to walk near the tenement house.
In the matter of the incident, Polskie Linie Kolejowe issued two statements. Anna Znajewska-Pawluk from the PKP press team reported that employees of the company working on the tunnel “found a collapsed floor in one of the rooms on the ground floor in the annex to the building”. The State Treasury company reported that “the building is empty”.
On September 7, PKP published another announcement. It was confirmed that the tenement house “suffered significant damage”. “The causes of the incident are being verified and further actions are being planned. The contractor responsible for the work is in contact with all relevant services and residents, who were moved to a hotel for the duration of the work. Work related to boring the tunnel is temporarily suspended. Even before the work began, the building was not in the best technical condition. This is a tenement house from the early 20th century, without a basement and solid foundations,” informs the press team of the state-owned company.
As Wirtualna Polska reports, a crisis team has been established. The editorial team, citing the findings of the investor of the tunnel construction, indicates that before the work even started, the buildings were assessed and it was already clear then that the tenement house “is not in the best technical condition”. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The building has no basement or solid foundations.
Łódź. Shocking recording. Tenants probably won’t return to their apartments
The Zmotoryzowani Łodzianie Facebook profile posted a video showing the moment the wall collapsed. “The tenants will most likely not return to their homes,” local community activists comment.
