This ancient Roman villa was once inhabited by the rich. She recently emerged from the Fusaro Lake, which is located near Naples.

The forces of nature can be dangerous, but also discover something interesting. Once again, the inhabitants of Italy found out. On February 27, the Mayor of the Italian Bacoli commune announced the discovery of a sunk villa in Lake Fusaro in the province of Naples. Above the water you can see the remains of the walls of the structure in which we once lived. The house was just over a kilometer from the ancient city of Baje, in which aristocrats and emperors spent their holidays.

The discovery was made close to the Casina Vanvitelian art Museum. In the pictures in the bird’s eye view you can see that the villa in Lake Fusaro had thermal baths, which suggests that it was a residence of elite citizens in ancient Rome. Currently, it is a luxurious place that is once inhabited by ordinary balves that live in the lake pool.

For this extraordinary discovery, Bradyseism, i.e. the same geological force, which caused the sinking of a part of the Baje in the Gulf of Neapolitan in the eighth century, the phenomenon is caused by filling or emptying the chambers under the surface of the earth.

When magma and other hydrothermal fluids get to these chambers, these liquids cause the soil rising above. And when they get out of them, the earth falls. Lake Fusaro is part of the phlegrean fields, a huge volcanic caldera near Naples.

Experts from archeology supervision and fine arts will examine the villa. Thanks to their work, we will learn more about architectural and cultural traditions from the time of the Roman Empire. At the moment it is known that the walls were built in a style typical for early Roman architecture, including used in Hadrian’s villa and Herod Winter Palace in Jericho.

The Fleger Fleletian volcano located near Naples is concerned about the inhabitants. The increase in seismic activity under the Phlegho fields has been observed since 2022.
