Observation decks are an important part of many cities. Entering them and admiring the views creates an atmosphere and allows you to look at the space from a completely different perspective. One of the unique ones will be closed soon. Located in Paris.

When you think of a Parisian terrace, you probably think of the one at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Tourists go there by elevator to admire the landscapes from 276 meters above the ground, but insiders know that beautiful views can also be seen from other points and buildings in the city. One of the hits is the Tour Montparnasse. You will have to forget about the attraction for some time.

The stunning terrace of Tour Montparnasse

Tour Montparnasse is the tallest skyscraper within the boundaries of Paris. It is part of a shopping center built between 1969 and 1972, in the center of the Montparnasse district. The structure is impressive – the building has 59 floors and its height to the roof is 210 m.

This is the terrace where residents flock when they want to experience romantic moments while watching the sunsets. Interestingly, many of them believe that it is from this place that the views are the most beautiful. For years, tourists have been visiting there looking for less obvious points on the city map and without too many crowds.

The Tour Montparnasse terrace will be closed

Now there is bad news in Paris, because the place will be closed for many years. A major renovation is coming up that will ultimately make the space even more beautiful and safer. These are the first such works approximately 50 years after the opening of the terrace in 1973.

Visitors have time to visit until March 31, 2026. The next fastest time we will enter the Tour Montparnasse will be in 2030 – if the works go according to plan. The reconstruction will be carried out by Nouvelle AOM, a collective created by the founders of Franklin Azzi Architecture, ChartierDalix and Hardel Le Bihan Architectes. The noticeable change will include, among others: a new glass facade of the building and an urban greenhouse on its roof. Another company will rebuild the base of the shopping center building.

This is not the first news of this type regarding the Parisian attraction. For some time now, tourists have not been able to visit, among others: the famous Pompidou Center, and earlier, due to a fire, the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral had to be forgotten for many years. Although decisions about closures are usually disliked by travelers, they are ultimately necessary and allow places to operate longer.

When it comes to admiring beautiful views in Paris, tourists will soon have the Windo Skybar, the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile hotel, Tours Duo, the Sacré-Cœur dome and the classic, the Eiffel Tower.
