The US military is ‘going back to basics’. Experts from Europe are concerned
The US military intends to ‘go back to basics’. The experiment with a specialized drone battalion in Europe is coming to an end.
The Associated Press agency reported the plans of the American military. General Christopher LaNeve wants soldiers, who until recently were developing skills in the effective use of unmanned aerial vehicles, to return to old concepts. The battalion was created on the basis of airborne infantry, which was established so that the army could quickly transfer units deep into enemy territory.
The drone unit will still conduct maneuvers in August and September this year. Then it will be solved. The soldiers are to report back afterward, including: from the knowledge they gained during exercises with Ukrainians.
Will the US military’s decision have disastrous consequences for Europe?
A group of foreign experts hoped that the battalion would operate much longer to gain practical knowledge about the use of drones on the battlefield – extremely beneficial from the perspective of the members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization threatened by Russia. The invasion, which was initiated by the federation, showed that unmanned aerial vehicles are the future of defense.
Thanks to them, it is possible to carry out reconnaissance (determining the enemy’s position, the movement of troops – even on a very large territory), attacks (they can be used against vehicles, artillery positions, etc.). They are relatively inexpensive (they often cost less than the equipment they can detect), and this is not the end of their advantages – one of the main ones is the lack of human losses (the operator can be up to 200 km from the target).
The US decision may cause NATO troops to be far behind in their knowledge of the use of military drones.

The Wall Street Journal noted that the decision may be related to the fact that the Chief of Staff of the American Army, General LaNeve (by the way – a close associate of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth) is known for his postulate for which he is fighting.
