The US imposes restrictions on Poland. There is a reaction from the ministry

The United States has included Poland on the list of countries subject to restrictions on the import of advanced chips. On this list, Poland was included in the company of countries such as Ethiopia, Mongolia and Ukraine. This is a big blow to the Polish economy.
We are talking about GPU microprocessors, key to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The introduction of restrictions means that Poland is not treated as a “key ally” of the United States, which may have serious consequences for the Polish economy and technological potential. Importantly, these restrictions do not apply to Western European countries, Canada or Australia, which further highlights the asymmetry in relations between Washington and Warsaw.
US restrictions. The reaction of the Ministry of Digitization
As she informed Virtual Polandthe Ministry of Digitization immediately reacted to the United States’ decision, expressing its dissatisfaction and announcing diplomatic steps.
“The decision of the United States administration is incomprehensible to us and is not based on any substantive grounds. The topic has not been consulted at any stage before,” the ministry said in its official position Virtual Poland.
The Ministry asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs to take urgent action to renegotiate the rules for the export of microprocessors. Marek Gieorgica, director of the Communication Office of the Ministry of Digitization, expressed hope for solidarity in this matter among European Union countries. He emphasized that “all EU countries should be treated by the US in the same way.”
Discussions with the European Commission
In response to the situation, representatives of the Ministry of Digitization held talks with the European Commission this week, in which they emphasized the importance of equal treatment of member countries by international partners. The Minister of Digitization will also ask Commissioner Henny Virkkunen to take decisive steps at the EU level in this matter.
The importance of chips for the Polish economy
The United States’ decision may have far-reaching consequences for Poland’s technological development, especially in the area of artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing. GPU-type microprocessors are crucial for advanced computing in these fields. Restricting access to these technologies may make it difficult for Polish companies to compete on the global market.
According to data from the PARP report, the Polish IT industry accounts for approximately 8% of the country’s GDP, and the development of AI is one of its key priorities. The introduction of import restrictions may therefore inhibit the dynamics of this sector and limit innovative opportunities.
