“The turn to Modlin is coming.” We learned the details of the investment
In 2029, passengers are to reach the new Warsaw/Modlin Airport station. On Wednesday, the authorities of Mazovia announced the next step on the way to this investment.
Although passengers currently use the train connection to Modlin station to get to the airport, it is located approximately 5.5 km from the passenger terminal. That’s why you have to transfer from the train station to the bus. This is going to change in less than four years.
The Masovian Voivode, Mariusz Frankowski, signed the location decision for the construction of a railway line leading to the Warsaw/Modlin Airport station. This step allows you to proceed to the implementation of the investment.
Trains to the Modlin airport
A new track and a 200 m long platform will be added to the existing station. The authorities of the Masovian Voivodeship announced that an above-ground railway station and a freight station will also be built near the existing roundabout. Road investments are also planned, including: construction of three viaducts.
“This is very good news, because the new line will integrate air and rail transport. Passengers will gain convenient access and a direct connection, among others, to Chopin Airport. This investment will definitely support the development of the Warsaw-Modlin port, which plans to increase capacity and launch new routes,” noted Marshal Adam Struzik on Wednesday, October 6.
The works will start in 2027 and are to be financed from the European Funds for Mazovia 2021–2027 program. Passengers are to arrive at the new station in Modlin in 2029. The investment will be carried out by Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA
Plans since 2012
The trains were supposed to arrive at the terminal much earlier – sklep.pl reminds that they were mentioned already in 2012. Initially, the plan was to accelerate investments for the Euro 2012 football championship, but, according to Marshal Struzik, protests from environmental organizations stood in the way. Later, there were also political “squabbles” over two airports in the province. Masovia – opposition politicians informed that PiS was blocking the development of investments in Modlin at the expense of the airport in Radom.
The breakthrough was the Supreme Administrative Court’s judgment of 2023, which enabled the signing of an agreement regarding the design documentation for a new section of tracks.
The cost of the new investment in the railway to Modlin is PLN 256 million, of which PLN 21 million was secured for the pre-design stage and project development.
