The transfer record in Poland has been broken! The fans will be furious about this
Steve Kapuadi officially in Widzew Łódź. The transfer was confirmed on Wednesday (February 25) morning.
The defender of the Democratic Republic of Congo national team joined Widzew Łódź from Legia Warszawa. In the capital club he was one of the pillars of defense, which is certainly a huge loss for the latter.
According to media reports, the transfer amount is expected to be approximately EUR 3 million, i.e. approximately PLN 12.5 million. This is a record amount in history, looking at the transfer within the PKO BP Ekstraklasa football league.
Steve Kapuadi is a Widzew Łódź player. Transfer record in Poland!
Kapuadi’s move from Warsaw to Łódź adds additional flavor to the fact that Legia and Widzew – to put it mildly – are not clubs whose fans like each other. Such a big transfer to a great rival, especially when both companies that have contributed to Polish football are fighting for survival? There is no denying that this move is electrifying at the end of the winter transfer window.
– Joining and playing for Widzew will be a great motivation for me. I can’t wait for my first performance. I know what the goals are for the coming weeks. We want to advance further in the Polish Cup and win matches in the league. I will do everything to help the team – said Kapuadi after signing the contract with the Łódź club.
Coach Marek Papszun will certainly have a big headache looking at Legia’s defensive formation. Kapuadi, regardless of the results achieved by the Warsaw club, was an important element of the puzzle on the pitch.
The 27-year-old footballer has played for Legia since the 2023/24 season. Previously, he was a player of Wisła Płock. The player, who has Congolese-French roots, started his football adventure in junior teams in France – Le Mans and Angers. He then moved to Belgium, where he played for the reserves of Zulte Waregem and Gent. Since autumn 2019, Steve Kapuadi has played in the Slovak league. First as a player of Inter Bratislava, and then AS Trencin, from which he moved to Poland in the summer of 2022.
Kapuadi is also a footballer called up to the national team of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for which he played in two friendly matches. In March, his team will compete in the play-offs to advance to the 2026 World Cup.
