Airport luggage, although it should be adapted to specific requirements, sometimes surprises airport employees. One of the tourists recently decided to transport… a crocodile skull.

A surprising incident occurred on an airfield in Delhi, India. That’s where a tourist appeared who wanted to take the reptile’s head on a trip. It looked like a museum exhibit and made a great impression on the port workers. The man wrapped her in a special material, but he could not count on the understanding of the inspectors. With his actions, he broke the law.

Crocodile skull in a tourist’s luggage

This situation caused such a shock that it was quickly reported in foreign media. A photo of a crocodile skull, which was discovered while checking luggage, also appeared online. The reptile’s head had an open jaw, large, sharp teeth and weighed about 777 grams.

A 32-year-old man who took unusual “luggage” with him wanted to fly with him from Delhi to Canada. It was caught during a security check at Terminal 3. After analysis by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, it emerged that the smuggled item was the skull of a small crocodile belonging to a species protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. In order to confirm the species, it is necessary to further scientific analysis.

Tourist with prohibited luggage detained

The 32-year-old quickly regretted his attempt to smuggle the skull and was arrested. It was found that there had been a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and the man was accused of illegally possessing and attempting to export a prohibited item. The confiscated skull was handed over to the Forest and Wildlife Department (West Division, GNCTD). The case is currently under investigation and further investigation is ongoing.

The detained Canadian explained that he had acquired the skull during his trip to Thailand. However, he did not have the required consent to transport wildlife items. He also assured that he neither hunted nor killed the crocodile.

The Dheli case should be a lesson to all tourists trying to transport illegal items. Please remember that by doing this we risk not only losing our flight, but much more. Before you start your trip, check carefully to make sure you only take what is legal. Ignorance of the law will only work to our detriment and will not release us from responsibility for a given act.
