The thousandth of a second decided! Poland with another European Championship medal
Pia Skrzyszowska is the European vice-champion in the 100-meter hurdles. This is the second medal for Poland during the European Athletics Championships 2026.
One thousandth of a second! This is what decided which of the athletes became the champion and which became the vice-champion of Europe.
Ultimately, the Polish Pia Skrzyszowska won the silver, and the Dutch Nadine Visser won the gold. This is the smallest difference at the finish line in the history of the European Athletics Championships in the women’s 100-meter hurdles race.
– This thousandth tastes a bit bitter. Nadine, my good friend, I don’t blame her, but I wanted to snatch that gold. Times are tragic here. When I was standing at the start, it was very windy. It doesn’t matter what time, what matters is that I have a medal. I am prepared both physically and mentally. I was motivated by the World Indoor Championships in Poland. I’m not leaving the podium of the European Championships, I want to return to gold in Poland in two years – admitted the Pole at the finish line.
Pia Skrzyszowska is the silver medalist. We were just short of gold!
Looking at the 25-year-old athlete, she is actually a multi-medalist. Skrzyszowska, looking only at the European Championship in an open stadium, has all the pucks. She finished with gold in Munich (2022), silver in Birmingham (2026) and bronze two years ago in Rome (2024). To this we can also add the European vice-championship in the 4×100 m relay race, also from the capital of Bavaria – from an event four years ago.
This is the second medal for the Polish athletics team at the European Championship 2026. The day before, Ewa Swoboda won silver, becoming European vice-champion in the 100 meters – although without hurdles. As you can see, for now, only representatives of the fair sex stand on the podium at the event in Birmingham.
However, the men still have a few days of the event to “atone themselves”, of course treating this topic with a pinch of salt.
