The tennis player couldn’t hold back her tears on the court. She was supposed to play with Iga Świątek
Jasmine Paolini unexpectedly said goodbye to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tournament. In Stuttgart, the Italian lost to the Turkish Zeynep Sonmez 2:6, 2:6.
The Italian tennis player is very popular in Poland. Jasmine Paolini is a tennis player who has Polish roots, speaks Polish and has often won the hearts of our fans with her characteristic smile.
However, it must be openly admitted that the Italian has not had the best time recently, if you look at the results she has achieved. To this list of failures we can add the immediate elimination from the tournament in Stuttgart.
Jasmine Paolini with tears in her eyes. The Italian was supposed to play with Iga Świątek
The WTA 500 tournament attracted many famous names. This group also included Iga Świątek, who is seeded number 3 in Stuttgart. The Pole is fourth on the world lists, but a few days before the start of the competition, Aryna Sabalenka withdrew from her trip to Germany.
Without the world number one, the chances for a good result for the Pole increase. Interestingly, the ladder showed that the aforementioned Paolini could face Świątek at the semi-final stage. However, this will not be the case, because a Turkish woman has found a way to become an Italian woman.
Zeynep Sonmez had to go through the qualifications to be able to play on clay in Germany. However, the Turkish woman proved that she has considerable skills, and beating Paolini in two sets 6:2, 6:2 is a truly impressive result.
For the first time in her career, Sonmez beat a player from the top ten of the WTA rankings. Paolini started the tournament in Stuttgart as the eighth-ranked racket in the world. Moreover, this victory in just 75 minutes was the first Turkish victory over a rival from the top ten of the WTA ranking. Sonmez therefore has considerable reasons to be satisfied.
The situation is completely different in the case of Paolini, who was clearly blocked during the match, unable to find the right rhythm of play. The Italian was a bundle of nerves, which she showed between points when she couldn’t hold back her tears.
You can see how much it costs to play at the highest level and the ambition to constantly be among the best in the world. This pressure is undoubtedly enormous, and in the end, only one player will win at the end of the tournament.
