One of the most unusual lighthouses in the world stands on the Baltic coast. Tourists can only get to the site by water.
The Lighthouse in Świnoujście has been operating since 1857 and is one of the most characteristic monuments of the city. It is nearly 68 meters high, making it the tallest lighthouse in Poland and at the same time the tallest brick lighthouse of this type in the world. It was opened to tourists in 2000. However, both climbing to the top and reaching the gates require some effort. To admire the Baltic Sea from here, you have to climb 308 steps and first take a boat trip.
Boat trip to the lighthouse
The Lighthouse in Świnoujście has not been accessible by land for several years. This is quite an unusual situation for an attraction that attracts tourists not only with its location on the Baltic Sea, but also with its Guinness world record. The lighthouse in Świnoujście is the highest in the world made of brick.
The road leading to Fort Gerhard and the Central Breakwater also remains closed, so people who want to see the tallest brick lighthouse in the world must choose a cruise. The restrictions were introduced for safety reasons in connection with the operation of the nearby LNG terminal. The protection zone designated around it also included the route leading to the monuments, cutting off access from the land. For now, there are no plans to restore traffic on this road.
There will be new water trams
Everything indicates that the waterway will remain the main way to reach this part of Świnoujście. Now the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority and Gaz-System want to buy two water trams for the city, which would take tourists to the Lighthouse and Fort Gerhard. For now, cruises are organized only by the German operator Adler-Schiffe Polska. A place for one person costs PLN 90. The ticket includes round-trip boat transport, entry to the Świnoujście Lighthouse, and entry to Gerhard’s Fort.
