The star of the Polish national team ends his career! A moving farewell

Agnieszka Korneluk

Agnieszka Korneluk officially announced on Wednesday (April 22) that she was ending her sports career. The famous volleyball player was the captain of the Polish national team in recent years.

It is worth adding that in an interview for WPROST in December 2025, the volleyball player suggested that the 2025/26 campaign may be the last one in her professional career.

– I don’t want to announce anything here and now or make any specific declarations. But I’m definitely thinking about what will happen in the near future. And it won’t necessarily be a life revolving around sports. Probably definitely without him, said Korneluk.

Now we know that the moment has come to actually say: It’s over.

Actually: Thank you! – looking at the content of the interested person’s entry.

Agnieszka Korneluk has finished her career! A telling post on Instagram

The volleyball player posted a long entry on social media, informing about the end of her sports career.

Why did I put off saying goodbye? Because no one likes them… and this farewell is special because after over 20 years of training, playing for the national team since 2012 and playing professionally in clubs since 2013, this stage of my life is coming to an end.

But this farewell is not supposed to be sad, it has to be like volleyball, which is full of positive emotions. These were the experiences this beautiful team sport gave me, and these were the experiences I wanted to give to the fans, although those who know me have seen tears and anger many times… I have always been real in all of this and I have never pretended to be anyone.

I would like to thank my family who endured these years of separation and always supported me. I would like to thank my friends and colleagues who came into my life thanks to volleyball and stayed forever. I would like to thank the people I met on my volleyball journey and who helped me develop. To those who did not help, only criticized and easily judged, even though they did not know, I also thank you, thanks to you I became even stronger. I would like to thank my colleagues, coaches, training staffs and presidents. It’s people who create teams, successes, emotions – this was the most beautiful thing in volleyball. Fans, without you there would be no us athletes. You created an amazing atmosphere, I always got chills when we sang the anthem together. Thank you for your support, shouts, shared victories and defeats.

I gave my whole heart to volleyball, I gave our team as much as I could in the difficult and good moments. Representing Poland has always been a great pride for me. Now I want another love, even greater, fulfillment of huge life dreams (I’m not pregnant, Mrs. Ewa M.).

God, thank you! Without you, I wouldn’t be the same person and volleyball player. Thank you for all these years without injuries, for playing with faith and hope. Thank you for watching and showing me what is most important.

Korneluk (previously known under her maiden name Kąkolewska) started operating on the big volleyball stage in 2013. Her first senior club, where she made her debut in the national elite, was Impel Wrocław. The volleyball player from Poznań impressed from the very beginning with her great physical conditions, being 200 cm tall.

During her career, Korneluk, apart from the Wrocław club, also played for: Grot Budowlane Łódź, Italian Pomi Casalmaggiore and Savino Del Bene Scandicci, Grupa Azoty Chemik Police and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów. The volleyball player spent the last season in the Turkish Fenerbahce Istanbul.

The center has played in the Polish national team since 2012. In recent years, she was the captain of the team and – it goes without saying – one of the leaders of the national team. It will certainly be a big loss for coach Stefano Lavarini’s team.
