The soldiers will dress up. The Ministry of National Defense’s green list of voluntary purchases
The Ministry of National Defense is finalizing work on the list of elements of uniforms and individual equipment. Soldiers will soon be able to buy what they lack from the list themselves.
Military standards for uniforms and weapons are still in force and are not going to waste, but it will be possible to supplement them. The Ministry of National Defense has prepared a list of equipment and accessories that the military will be able to purchase for themselves.
The proposed solution is modeled on mechanisms already used in the American and French armies. Until now, using your own equipment was not possible in the Polish Army at all.
Full set of equipment so far. Military people with faster access to news
The new rules were announced at the beginning of September by Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk during the 34th edition of the International Defense Industry Exhibition. Upon entering service, each soldier will continue to receive a full set of equipment from the state and funds to supplement it. But for some people it just isn’t enough.
– The green list is intended for the soldiers of the Polish Army to determine for themselves what they want to use in the army, what their service should look like, what they want to use to fight, what products are good for them, what they want to use – argued the deputy minister of the Ministry of National Defense.
What equipment was included on the green list was decided by problem teams operating in the General Staff of the Polish Army, composed of military specialists. This is an opportunity to introduce technological innovations faster than in the standard purchasing procedure.
Soldier’s choice. Not uniforms, not vests and not helmets
The soldier will decide individually about the choice of a specific product and place of purchase. The list will only tell you which products from a given category meet the requirements accepted by the military.
In the first stage, the list will include simple, personal equipment used by soldiers on a daily basis, which can complement field, training, special and sports clothing. – We are talking about small elements, such as goggles, gloves, headphones, all elements that a soldier has the right to choose individually – explained Minister Tomczyk.
Uniforms, vests with ballistic protection or helmets will definitely not be included in the list. There will also be no military equipment, its parts, components or subassemblies that are subject to separate procedures. The new mechanism will start operating in October 2026.
