The snow disappears from the Tatra trails. Tourists can count on such a picnic

The weather forecasts for the picnic in the Tatra Mountains are extremely kind this year. In Zakopane on May 1, thermometers will show 18 degrees, and the next day even 21 degrees Celsius. It will be very sunny, although on Saturday rainfall can be waiting for us. TOPR decided to suspend daily avalanche messages. The association emphasizes, however, that this should not be equated with safe conditions. “The level of caution typical in snowy area is recommended,” we read.

TOPR message on avalanches

In the winter season on the Tatra Volunteer Emergency Service website you can find current information about the level of avalanche threat in the mountains every day. With the arrival of full spring and the melting of more snow cover, the warnings cease to be issued. This year, the abolition of the obligation to issue avalanche messages TOPR announced on April 28. Two days later, the entire area of ​​the Tatra Mountains will come into force for the ski and snowboard traffic (only the red trail to Rysy is open from April 24).

The snow melts on the trails

White color slowly disappears from the popular low -located trails of the Tatra National Park. “Only single snow patches lie on Kasprowy Wierch, in the Gąsienicowa Valley you can encounter the remains of snow, while in the Five Polish Ponds the snow cover is about 20 cm thick,” writes TVP Kraków.

This does not mean, however, that the conditions are completely safe. You still need to be careful for the mountain area and observe the weather, which can change very quickly.

The beginning of May may still not be the best time for high -mountain trips. “There are still very difficult conditions in the upper parts of the Tatra Mountains. The snow is hard and frozen, in shaded places and on the northern slopes, such conditions persist throughout the day,” says TPN in the latest communication.
