The accident occurred on Saturday, January 18. The video depicting a moment after the lift collapsed went to the network, which made the action loud not only in local media. You can see the drive wheel of the gondola that broke off. The witnesses of the incident said that it all began with a problem with the rope through which the skiers began to fall off the chairs.
The defective lift caused that about 80 people were imprisoned on it and 10 people were injured. “We sat on the chairs and suddenly we started to fall. He added that most people tried to make a difficult decision before – jump or stay in a chair.
Ski instructor Lorea Maiz, who was also on the spot, not only described her situation. “I was with two friends on chairs. I flew and fell on the snow, and my friends were with skis attached and hanging upside down for half an hour, “she described.
Rescue operation is successful
Although the rescue operation lasted a long time, everyone managed to help. Those who remained on the chairs hanging in the air were waiting for support for about an hour and a half. People who were injured as a result of falling required more specialist care – two were seriously injured and went to the hospital.
Both medics and firefighters were involved in the rescue operation. The victims were picked up from the resort from helicopters and ambulance ambulances.
The case was considered so serious that the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánche referred to her: “I am shocked by the news about this accident. We direct all our support to the wounded and their families. The slope was closed for the time of conducting rescue and investigation, “he commented.
