The Silesian zoo has a new resident. This is a species threatened with extinction

Rapid, lemur wari ze Śląska

On Wednesday, June 4, the Silesian Zoo announced the birth of Lemura Vari. Pictures of the toddler were also shown.

On Wednesday, information about the birth of Lemura Vari appeared on the profile of the Silesian Zoological Garden. Three photographs of the animal were attached to the message, and the comments emphasized that this is a great success and the first toddler of this genre after a few years of effort.

Lemur was born in the Silesian zoo

“We have great news for you! A new resident has appeared in our family – a tiny lemur crazy! He was born on April 20, and his mother from the first moments looked after him with careful care? And most importantly … We already know his sex! He is a boy who we gave the name Rapid. You can already admire him on the catwalk!” – Zoo employees wrote.

Vari are critically threatened with extinction. They live in Madagascar forests, inhabiting the crown of trees. They live in loose groups and feed on fruit. These mammals are polygamous, and pregnancy in their case lasts from 99 to 102 days, after which the mother gives birth from one to even five young people.

Vari is the largest of the lemurine. They can reach 50 to 55 cm (without a tail). Their tail is another 60-65 cm. These animals weigh about 3-3.7 kg.
